The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyTue Jul 12, 2011 6:57 pm

It hadn't been long since The demon king had suffered a shameful run in with a young boy. Artix felt defeated and utterly humiliated and the guy hadn't even thrown a single punch, it was so infuriating. The worst part was that Eon was a scrawny little runt of a boy, easily cut down with a single strike and yet Artix still couldnt bring himself to do it. What the hell was it about that boy that caused Artix to hesitate, anybody else would have been struck down instantly but somehow Eon managed to make Artix pause.

Did the kid have some kind of special power? He was a noble and most nobles were trained from day one to be shinigami so that solution wasn't impossible. Maybe it was the fact that Eon was a noble. If Artix had cut him down the entire gotei would be upon him in days, maybe that was why he hesitated. But he didnt have that on his mind at the time. The instant Artix halted his attack was because he knew the boy was different. As to why he was different, well Artix didnt want to think about that.

Instead of thinking about what was troubling him he had come up with a solution to rid himself of such thoughts. He had been hearing rumors, even before meeting Eon about a thief, a thief renowned for being alble to steal whatever he or she pleases. Only recently had Artix discovered the location of the "Wild doe" and had ventured to the south rukongai.

His reason for searching for this thief was simple and complex at the same time. His meeting with Eon had made Artix doubt his own beliefs about people. Ever since he could remember he had concidered the average man or woman to be evil and uncaring for anybody but themselves. Now he wasn't so sure. But he was confident that if he could kill this Wild Doe character, a person believed to be the guardian of a certain village in rukongai then his doubt would be nullified. If he offered this person a choice between his or her own life and the lives of the villagers then they would choose their own life and sacrifice the citizens.

It had been quite a few years since he had ventured this far to the south but the villagers still remembered him clear as day. They fled for their lives as he stormed through the front gates, his pace quick and heavy. His face was devoid of any emotion that strayed from anger or frustration. The sun shone as people screamed and children cried. No doubt this would attract the attention of their so called guardian and that was just what Artix wanted. He drew his sword with a hiss. The bystanders called out louder than ever.

A few local fools attempted to stand in Artix's way but his bare fist made quick work of their efforts. They went flying into empty stalls and a few of them were lucky enough to recieve a few cuts from his sword. He wanted the Doe to appear and see the carnage, he wanted to beat this villages guardian to within an inch of their life and then watch as they give up the villagers lives for their own. Then it would prove once and for all that all people were evil!

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyTue Jul 12, 2011 11:04 pm

The wolf growled and bore her teeth at the stranger again. The animal was sprawled low, grey fur standing up, eyes fixated on the human woman in from of her. The wolf was scared, angry and confused. The two-legged enemy came at night, carrying with them a cub, her cub. The tall white beast looked just like the murderers who moons ago left the wolf without a pack, but she smelled like the forest, so did the little one. Yuu took a resolute step forward, a movement big enough to show that she wasn't scared and small enough not to provoke the animal. The pup squealed at her feet - he was afraid of his mother, as were the other cubs that were hiding behind the parent. Woman took another crawling step and crouched, slowly, peered carefully at by a pair of yellow eyes. She then gently pushed the little furry ball forward. He kept shaking as the mother smelled him carefully. She noticed both the wound and the herbs applied to it. After the examination a verdict was reached - the pup joined his siblings. "Take better care of your pups. They will be running this place after I leave." Yuu smiled and walked away. The lone wolf mother now knew that in this forest she had an ally - a lupine sister with mane of white and eyes of a wild hunt.

Takeshi sprinted through the woods with a smile, ecstatic lightness pulsing in her temples. the night was young and the murderous crescent moon grinned sinisterly high above. Unfortunately the Wild Doe did not have the luxury of giving in to the primal call and running wild. The words in the wind were loud and clear - the ground shook as the Demon King was traveling South, his glare setting the air ablaze in search of the Doe. With these regretful thoughts in mind Yuu made her way to the cabin. Sturdy leather boots, a plain brown shirt and black linen trousers. Together with a grey cloak, common in just about all of the Rukongai, the tools for stalking were all set. Even the sharpest tongue cannot parry a blade, thus a dozen of throwing daggers and a pair of beautiful steel kamas were hidden within clothing. With this done she was set. A whisper ran through the woods as the white spirit left the forest. Somewhere a wolf howled, bidding her farewell.

Yuu has been observing Artix for quite a while now, witnessing the man's brutality as he made way to the South. Doe's eyes remained emotionless to the carnage and terror the Demon was spreading. She had heard of the man before, even ran into him a couple of times when traveling around Rukongai for her little heists. The man was tall and strong, combined with a face that was constantly sending menacing signals to those around there was no surprise he earned his title. Finally they have arrived to where she expected the Demon to arrive - her village. Indeed that was the easiest way to attract her attention, and the most harsh. She winced, both unimpressed and angry. Although he had to be given credit for logic and efficiency. That is if there was a good reason for this improvised hunt anyway.

Just as discussed previously, the villagers ran and hid; a few trying to put up a fight. "Fools!" Yuu exhaled with a relief seeing Artix move in non-lethal trajectories. It was time for her to show up. The cloak came off and the Doe sprinted, flashing past the Demon in a white blur. The man might have been strong but as far as speed and subtlety were concerned she had the upper hand. The flashy appearance was to show the intruder he was no longer dealing with dumb helpless thugs and perhaps delay the physical confrontation. Although being figuratively slapped in the face could have a completely opposite effect. Yuu helped one of the men up, slipped him a small pouch of water and shrieked angrily in his ear: "Get the hell outta here before I cut you down myself!" She stretched back up. The scarlet of her eyes peering unwaveringly at the Demon's emotionless scowl, into the emerald abyss. Takeshi smiled and tilted her head slightly, creating a contrast with the malice in her gaze. "My my, to what do I owe the pleasure of having a demon at my doorstep?" She seemed relaxed, but was he to attack the distance between them provided plenty of time to draw kamas at her hips. The dying star shone desperately in the sky, giving the tension-filled air that extra tremble.

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyWed Jul 13, 2011 10:17 pm

A small mass of white shot at Artix from nowhere as he made his way through the main street of the village. His instinctual reaction to strike it down was for nothing as his sword sliced only the air. Whatever it was it was fast, far faster than he. This must be the Wild Doe, south rukon's guardian come to protect her source of food and water. When Artix thought about it, that was all there was between them; The Doe defended them for sustenance and the villagers provided for protection, there was no love, only the need for survival. If one was removed then the other wouldnt die, they would simply do as humans have always done and adapt.

He straightened out from his lunge and turned to see the face of this settlements only hope. Her hair fell like a frozen waterfall from her head, glossing her shoulders and sliding down her back. Bright red eye's standing out dramatically like the warning colors of a deadly poisonous animal. Her thin lips were curved into a mockingly cocky grin, but this did nothing to affect Artix. If he tried to attack from this far away she could easily dodge, thus she had the right to be relaxed. If he could get her at close range however and keep her there he would have the upper hand.

Instantly he began thinking of ways to decrease the distance between himself and The Doe; luring her into an alleyway or a building might do the trick for example. As would using a villager as a hostage, assuming of course she had no way of attacking from long range. If she were an angry person then her blind rage just might be her downfall however she didnt look like the type to flare up easily.

He stared straight at his opponent his expression completely devoid of anything but anger or resentment. Over the centuries, being left in complete solitude had diminished Artix's social skills to the point where he just about forgot about them. As a result he cared little for the ways of politeness and disliked idle banter. Getting straight to the point was more his style.

"You protect these people." Artix stated firmly. "Why?"

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyFri Jul 15, 2011 1:11 am

The woman kept staring her opponent down, white of the fangs hiding deceivingly in the smile. That reminded her how just the other night the wolf-mother growled and barked at her. The thought of comparing the villagers to her pups brought a smile on the Yuu's inside voice lips and widened the real grin. She always loved children; being a fierce and caring mother would suite her quite nicely. "If not for the process of procreation..."

Yuu frowned, the sheer shock momentarily breaking the tense mask of murderous intent on her face. She was expecting quite a few things from the Demon's visit. There were thoughts of a business proposal, perhaps there was an item that was out of reach for the warrior's straightforward approach, but obtainable through the cunning ways of a thief. Of course the first place amongst those guesses was that the bloodthirsty fiend has ran out of strong opponents and the boiling blood was what led him to the Doe. Yet not even in her wildest dreams has Yuu expected Artix to come bearing a question, a rather abstract one at that. Every other thought was blown out of her mind in a powerful gust. "What's on your mind, Demon?"

Of course she new what kept bringing her to the warmth of others; what beckoned from the maddening freedom of the forest and into the sultry air filled with sugary affection, blind respect and sex that was far too tender. Yet she was not about to share her innermost self with a rude and twisted stranger. "Why I protect them? Let's see..." Yuu folded her hands and tapped her chin with the long delicate index finger while casting her gaze upwards; at the same time not forgetting to keep close attention to the intruder's every movement. " I guess I'm just a benevolent deity at heart. You ought to protect your flock, ya know!" Takeshi reached into the inner pocket and unearthed a rubber band. She then proceeded to tie up her hair in a tight tail.

Sleight of hand is the bread and butter of the thief's trade. Yuu never felt comfortable with long bulky swords or any other weapons that took up much space. The two kamas she has been wielding recently were an exception - light and compact they were perfect, not restricting her agility or interfering with combat acrobatics. But the throwing knives were her true specialty. What came up and behind her head with the rubber band was one of her deadly babies - a "fish-knife", a blade without a handle with its balance tilted towards the razor-sharp pointy end. The movement was as natural and casual as it could be. The weapon was completely concealed from Artix and Doe took extra care not to let the sun gleam off its surface. "You still haven't answered my question, dear guest. But I guess i can't blame you for that - men like you are not used to conversing with words..."

Of course a simple soul, no matter how trained or spiritually talented they were, could not perform a shunpo. But no more than a several heartbeats after the throwing knife, aimed at the man's neck, reached him, Yuu was already an arm's reach away from her opponent, kamas drawn. The throw itself was, albeit unexpected, not unavoidable. Its purpose was to make Artix either parry or dodge, putting him in a defensive, disadvantageous position. Doe's left hand would initiate a shallow, right to left slash, aimed at the main artery on the neck. That was to catch enemy's sword in the weapon's angled grasp. The initial attack was supposed to allow this move to succeed. At the same time her right kama would travel in an ascending arc, attempting to drive weapon's elongated blade between the ribs. Yuu hoped that attack's surprise and speed would force her opponent to either disengage to the safe distance or receive a wound to the chest or the weaponless hand. After executing the attack, Doe uttered, careful not to break her breath: "Your kind understands violence well, no?" The wolf's blood steered up, gushing through her veins.

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyFri Jul 15, 2011 8:53 pm

The answer Artix recieved was once more one of mockery, it seemed that this Doe was little more than a moderately deadly jester. Or maybe her jokes were an incentive for Artix to make the first move. Either way Artix was too troubled to be in the mood for jokes of any sort. He growled under his breathe in frustration. If he couldnt get the answer out of her this way then he would have to force it from her lips. If her stubborness continued on into death then there would be no choice but to try and find another solution. Even if there wasn't one. This was the only way to solve the problem plagueing Artix but he couldnt bear to live with such thoughts, he'd wander rukongai another five centuries if he had to.

The Doe moved and so did Artix. As Yuu reached back to tie her hair Artix positioned his sword with his right hand directly in front of him. Maybe if he went on the defencive rather than rush his opponent an oppertunity would arise or she would tire herself out enough for him to take advantage of the situation. He solidified his other hand into a rock like fist; should he need to use a secondary attack or a desperate quick one, that would be it. He steadied his breathing as he watched his opponent. She was slim and nimble, ranged attacks were almost inevitable.

A few tense seconds passed by as Yuu meddled with her blasted hair. The villagers had all dissapeared into houses and alleyways but no doubt they were all watching the match. All of them holding their breath and hoping that The Doe would appear the victor. But why? Was it simply because she was the one and only protector? Without her would the village really be defenceless? The surrounding forest provided excellent cover for ambushes, why couldnt the villagers post guards in the forest to watch for intruders? Too lazy was Artix's guess. They had Yuu so why would they need anything else right? They cared nothing for her personally, all they were worried about were themselves.

The attack came! A small dagger thrown at great speed. Yuu must had disguised the retrieval of the dagger by tying back her hair. Artix thought fast and ducked as low as he could go. A single head on attack from so far away must have been a distraction. In a wild guess Artix swung his blade as swiftly as he could infront of himself at a horizontal fashion at about shin height. In the same moment of his swing his forehead had been narrowly sliced by an upward curving attack from his opponents weapon. Had he not ducked it would have broken a rib or two.

But he had a problem. If his attack which was aimed to, if not remove, atleast impede the use of one or both of his opponents legs didnt hit he would be crouching in an extremely vulnerable position.

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyMon Jul 18, 2011 12:05 pm

The air hissed, sliced by the deadly metal traversing it at great speed. Unfortunately the precise throw went above its target without yielding the desired result. Yuu noticed her opponent ducking, driven by sheer reflexes and battle sense. "Impressive". The thought crossed her mind for less than a moment as she was faced with a smoldering ruins of a plan. The left kama sliced the air, while the right one just grazed its target. Takeshi hoped that a wound on the forehead will eventually be to her advantage, impairing her opponent's vision. Yet the most troubling in the unfolding situation was that Demon's blade rugged edge was making its way for the Doe's shins. The time became tangy, like flowing tar, allowing the mind to swiftly plan a course of actions. One part of her wanted to take the hit and crack the impudent bastard's skull open; the position he was in was simply perfect for that. Alas, she realised very clearly that it was no place for her to lose a leg. That is if she wanted to go with the course of life (or afterlife even) that she had decided on so long ago.

Her body screamed as it was sent from a neck-breaking charge into an unbelievable backward arch. Yuu composed herself into a compact line and leaned back on her hands, before using them to jump further away from the opponent. While midair, she would use three fingers on each hand to send out a scattering fan of four knives in order to zone her enemy from attacking the vulnerable target. As she landed a quick twitch of pain reflected on her face. The retreat was too sudden and it took its toll on the muscles; there will be some time before she could use her dexterity to the fullest. She could also feel heat pulsing through her body; and it was not due to the sun or moving. To anyone spiritually aware it would seem as if a pouch of oil was thrown into a brazier. Yuu's reiatsu, albeit still immature, flared, reflecting woman's anger and the primal rage that was rising from the depths of her soul.

From the moment of landing her kamas were held in a defensive position, ready to repel any assault. "I'll ask again, Demon..." - any playfulness was gone from her tone, tongues of flame dancing in the scarlet eyes - "... what the hell did you come here for? I can see that it is not simply thirst for blood. Answer!"

The Devil and the Doe Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Devil and the Doe   The Devil and the Doe EmptyMon Jul 18, 2011 9:14 pm

The strike hit only the ghost of it's target as The Doe deftly dealt a graceful dodge. Artix had no time to recover nor to wipe away the blood flooding into his open eye however as half a dozen projectile blades hurtled through the air towards him. Using his current crouched position he forced his legs straight and propelled himself out of danger but he had also placed a hefty amount of distance between himself and his opponent. Distance was bad thanks to those ranged throwing knives but close range was just as dangerous because of his opponents speed. Maybe if he could somehow grab hold of his opponent her movement would be restricted and he'd be able to do some damage?

The scraggly black hair falling over his face soaked up some of the blood but Artix had to keep his eye closed to prevent himself from closing both eyes in annoyance or reacting by wiping his eye. He knew that the moment he made a movement to clear his eye of any impediments his opponent would take advantage of the moment to land a pre-emptive strike. He had lost his peripheral vision on the left side of his face. He knew that the loss of vision would prevent him from evading certain attacks, he would have to find a way to clear the blood. For now he would gamble and guess that his enemy would do the smart thing and attack from his left

He stood once more ready and waiting, his strategy of tiring out his opponent seemed to be working. He could feel her rage, her desire to pay Artix back for his previous action. Her very reiatsu blazed telling him so. But was her anger the kind that caused mistakes or the kind that fine tuned combat prowess? Just to be safe, Artix went with the fine tune option. He could hear it also in her words, the cocky and confident attitude was gone, replaced by malice. Artix liked that. He enjoyed the fact that both fighters were now taking each other seriously. Now that The Doe had learned that Artix could be just as deadly as she Artix knew that the fun would soon begin.

"Answers!" He replied simply to her question. "Why do you protect these people?!" He repeated his previous question hoping that she would now give him an answer.
